Men's Counseling

Men's Counseling - South Denver PsychotherapyMen have unique pressures.

What does being a man even mean today?

What are the new cultural expectations for men?

Which expectations do you choose to follow?

If you are confused, it is not surprising!

The traditional male role of dominance and power has often left men isolated from others, themselves and their feelings. Although anger is an accepted emotion in men, what about the other emotions that are a normal part of life? Although men crave intimacy as much as women, how do you get there? Expectations are changing; but what are they? What is your choice in the matter?

Society identifies some problems being “typically male” such as difficulty with intimacy, workaholism, alcoholism, rage and abusive behavior (according to psychotherapist Terrence Real in his book “I DON’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT”).

Here’s what men’s counseling can do for you:

Counseling can help you clarify what being a man means to you and then take pride in that.  Counseling can help you learn to ask for what you need. Counseling can help you identify and provide for the needs of those around you. Counseling can help you achieve more fulfilling relationships.

At counseling, you can safely talk about trauma, loss, abuse, hurts, and disappointments.

Counseling can help you through transitions such as marriage, kids growing up or leaving home, mid-life crisis, aging, divorce and changes in orientation, health, employment and retirement.

Counseling can help you understand the effects past relationships might be having on your current relationships. Evaluating the influences of the past can free you from repeating old scripts or stereotyping others as more-of-the-same.

Counseling can help you understand your current relationship, what you need from it, how do you communicate those needs and listen to the needs of others.

Counseling can help you create more meaningful and satisfying relationships with your family, friends and colleagues.
