Review of book “The Seven Levels of Intimacy” by Mathew Kelly

I recommend this book for those trying to get greater satisfaction out of their relationships, be they friends, family, or your partner in life. Though this book is aimed at primary relationships, I find it helpful in all relationships.
We all have other people in our lives and times without a primary relationship. The knowledge imparted in this book can help give direction and motivation to maintaining those other relationships even when your preoccupied. The book helps give direction to deepening casual friendships and the reality of the limits of others without giving them up.
Of course, this book is very helpful and inspiring to that illusive goal of deep intimacy and yet it is more. It can motivate one to learn about our own needs, to ask for what we need and become curious of our loved ones needs.
The book is organized as ever deepening levels of intimacy with the 7th level something to strive for even in small snippets of reality. I have observed couples that would meet a very high levels of intimacy in some areas while others subjects are taboo or so conflictual, they stay on the surface. That being said, all levels described have their value. We each provide for each other in various capacities. Even within a relationship, the inimacy level can vary from day to day.
Read this book, have it be your guiding light and not a source of comparison to what one “should” be doing and take it slow. Real intimacy can take a lifetime. Pam

Alan K. Simpson at the Denver Forum

Former United States Senator from Wyoming Alan K. Simpson spoke Wednesday, January 12th at the Oxford hotel in Denver, CO, speaking on, “Budgets, Deficits & The Future”. The senator’s speech centered around the budget problems facing the nation, pointing out that cutting small items out of the budget will do nothing to stop the large losses from big spending areas – defense, healthcare, and social security.

Simpson serves on the Commission for Continuity in Government. He also served as co-chair of Americans for Campaign Reform with former Senate colleagues Bill Bradley of New Jersey, Warren Rudman of New Hampshire and Bob Kerrey of Nebraska. He is active with the National Commission on Writing, the Advisory Board of Common Good (a legal reform coalition), and is a former member of the American Battle Monuments Commission.

Mr. Simpson is an Honorary Board Member of the humanitarian organization Wings of Hope, and served in 2006 as one of ten member contributors to the Iraq Study Group Report.

The former senator and his wife, Ann, live in Cody, Wyoming.

South Denver Psychotherapy is pleased to announce our sponsorship of Inter-Faith Community Services’ Nibbles & Sips, An Evening of Raising the Roof to Prevent Homelessness and Hunger, Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency DTC, 7800 E. Tufts Ave., Denver, 80237 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $50.00 and can be purchased at www.ifcs.org or by calling (303) 789-0501. This is a wonderful evening of sampling more than 150 wines and beer from around the world and sampling food from some of South Metro Denver’s best restaurants. Prominent Littleton citizen Mary Bradford will be honored at the event for her long-time devotion to Inter-Faith as well as the rest of the South Metro community.

Money raised from this event will go towards two of the most important programs that Inter-Faith provides: homeless prevention for individuals, families and seniors and to provide food for those that would otherwise go without. “Last year Inter-Faith spent more than $250,000 to prevent homelessness in our community,” said Sandra Blythe-Perry, Inter-Faith Executive Director. “The demand for our services is up 75% from last year and we would really like for the community to support our event so we can try to keep up with the tidal wave of need we are seeing.”

“South Denver Psychotherapy has enjoyed a long-standing relationship supporting Inter-Faith participating in many programs throughout the years and it was just a natural fit for us to support this event as well to show our support of those who are struggling in our community,” said Pam Kennel.

Inter-Faith is the largest non-governmental human services agency helping those who are struggling in Centennial, Englewood, Glendale, Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Lone Tree, Sheridan and unincorporated Arapahoe County. Since 1964, Inter-Faith has grown into the largest emergency and continual support system in South Metro Denver for low-income families, children and seniors and the homeless. Inter-Faith is dedicated to providing services that bridge the gaps between crisis, survival and independence.
